Run the generated Bruno collection
Run the generated Conduit Bruno collection interactively or from the CLI against a configured backend URL.
Use the generated Bruno collection to inspect Conduit requests interactively or run its folders from the command line. The collection is generated from Hurl, so use Run Hurl tests as the behavioral authority when the two formats appear inconsistent.
Before you begin
Start a Conduit backend and identify its complete API base URL. The runner defaults to http://localhost:8000; the examples use http://localhost:3000/api. You need the Bruno collection under specs/api/bruno and Bun for the CLI workflow. The collection can also be opened directly in the Bruno app.
Run the collection
Set HOST to the backend API base URL. For example:
HOST=http://localhost:3000/apiThe runner passes this value to Bruno as the host environment variable in the local environment. The visible result is a command configured for your backend rather than the default port.
Leave BRUNO_SANDBOX unset to use the runner’s default safe sandbox, or set an available sandbox value required by your local workflow:
BRUNO_SANDBOX=safe HOST=http://localhost:3000/apiThe value is passed to the Bruno CLI through --sandbox. Keep the safe default unless your test setup requires another supported mode.
From specs/api, run:
HOST=http://localhost:3000/api BRUNO_SANDBOX=safe ./run-api-tests-bruno.shThe script changes into bruno, skips the environments directory, and runs each remaining folder with bun x @usebruno/cli run, the local environment, the configured host, and the selected sandbox.
Open the bruno/ folder in the Bruno app and run the relevant request or folder against your configured local environment. Use this path to inspect request data and response behavior while investigating a failure.
The observable result is an interactive request run against your backend. Return to the Hurl suite to confirm the corrected behavior against the authoritative assertions.
Diagnose a failed run
If the runner targets the wrong service, check HOST first; the default is http://localhost:8000. If the CLI cannot run a collection, confirm that Bun and the generated bruno/ directory are available. If a Bruno response disagrees with Hurl, compare the generated request with the Hurl file and treat Hurl as authoritative. The collection is kept in sync through the project’s generation and CI workflow.
